Topic: Trying for a boy? Posted: 17 January 2006 at 3:17pm |
I know it doesn't matter, but we are still in the thinking stages of having number 2. We already have a fabulous little girl (19 months old) and would really like to have one of each, so was wondering if there was anything that we could do to increase chances for a boy, so time to bring out the old wives tales! I hope it doesn't sound selfish, because it is not meant to.
Trust me, if we had another little girl - we would still be totally stoked, and Gabrielle is such a wonderful girl that she deserves a sibling - brother or sister, but my partner would like a little boy too and I come from a family full of girls (absolutely no boys), so it would also be nice from my perspective.

In talking to all of my friends that have boys, most of them seemed to have conceived close to the end of their cycle, so maybe there is something in that!
Thanks Jezsika - I'll take a look at the Shettles Method. Be really interested to see if it is right for you. 174 days and you'll find out!!! Makes a good read if nothing else aye?

From my understanding Boy sperm swims fast but doesn't live very long, girl sperm swims slower, but lives longer. So to increase the chance of having a boy you should avoid sex till just before you ovulate. - 6th form biology teacher used this to get a boy after 2 girls.

Hilarious - I've just had a quick look at the Shettles Method and it says that you have to monitor your vaginal mucus to find out when you're ovulating , take your temperature to find out when a certain chromosome (I think) is being released , have sex doggie style , have your partner wear boxer shorts (no prob there) and make sure he drinks a caffeinated beverage right before sex! Apparently it all helps the boy sperm reach the egg quicker. I'm thinking about how Clinton would react to all of that, just getting in the moment and I stop and say - "now have you had some caffein?" and he says "no" and I say "well you have to go and have one now!" Would certainly put an end to the 'moment' but hey, I'll give it a go!

lol its pretty funny huh!!! have you read how to conceive a girl?! lol i didnt really follow it but we did the sperm meets egg plan (we were just desperate by then to get pregnant) and that worked, you have sex every 2nd day starting the 2nd day after your period, then when you noticing you temp drop you do it every day and then once you ovulate do it again like 2 days later again for good luck. Its alot of work haha but has a fairly high success rate so i have read! lol

Crikey a girl does sound like a lot of work - excellent!! We only probably had sex once and got a girl - my partners parents were living with us at the time and were in the bedroom next door so didn't do such good things for the sex life (but that's a whole other story). I'll keep looking through it though because I find it fascinating LOL!! I guess the first step for me is to find out when I ovulate and go from there. As I said, still in the thinking stages of no.2 and will probably come off the pill in a couple of months. I'm 37 in July so have no time left to waste!

Well, I can tell you how to get a boy.... be on the pill, get a tummy bug, vomit twice and voila! A baby boy bun in the oven Oh, and it helps if you are actually not meant to be able to have babies!

My partners brothers have this theory that if you are crap in bed you end up with a girl but if you are a great lay you end up with a boy.Boys will be boys.

You guys make me chuckle...
I second Clares scheme for a boy!! Take the pill religiously. Get drunk. Have sex and viola!! For me the vital key was to be in the last year of your degree and have funds set aside for your OE!!
He he, plans change huh?! But I now have the best thing that has ever happened to me (yeah, and I spose Andy is alright too)...
