Chicken pox vaccine

Has anyone done this? when DH took Alan to doc today he said it was the wrost case he had seen in year's and told DH about a vaccine which is $60. we have decided to look into this for our next children I am so at my wit's end my boy's are so ill and there is not alot we can do for them a little annoyed we did not know the vaccine exsisted or we would have looked into in sooner. Anyway has anyone done this or do you think it is worth looking into?
oh and what age is it given.

Sorry to hear the boys are so bad Deb, I hope it doesn't last too much longer!
I looked into the vaccine for Ella when I was pregnant with Benjy.
It is expensive, my Dr charges $100 per dose.
They were not overly encouraging about us getting it (although not discouraging either) and told me that they think getting it naturally as a child is generally better as the vaccine's effectiveness isn't tested beyond age 20 and getting it as an adult can be much worse.
I decided to wait and hope they don't get it too severely as children but if the manage to avoid it until they're say 15, I'll look at getting them immunised.

ETA: Dr told me that they like to wait until after the 15 month jabs to give the vaccine.

I had seen the ads for it in Little Treasures etc, but to be honest I never really thought about getting it done.

Hope the boys are better soon to you all. And esp big hugs for you - its not your fault, please dont beat yourself up about it.

Yep thats true, I had the jab (as it was routine) and I still got the pox, but not as bad as my sisters did.

Hun, not meaning to sound rude, but if they have/have had it, there is no point getting the vaccine.   Getting it is the best vaccine, if you get my drift. If they are unlucky to get it again, and its highly unlikely, it will not be anywhere near as bad as this time. Don't beat yourself up!

Honestly, I would rather them get the menz b than the chixpox, but thats just me... Hugs to you, poor you and poor poor babies...

Yeah I was jsut saying that to Dh this morning if we going too look into the pox one then we need to do the menzb one we have been putting it off a bit to see how it goes now I am thinking it is time to get it done.

I never bothered with the vaccine, I'm of the school of thought that it's one of those things kids just get, a rite of passage even. All three of mine have had them, Maya had a mild dose and was better within 3 days (altho still had spots), the gremlins had chronic doses, so bad that they had them inside their vaginas and in the rims of their eyes. But even tho it seems awful while they have it, the worst of it only lasts a few days, and once they've had it, they've had it. I won't bother vaccinating Iggle Piggle either, altho will be cross if Maya catches it again seeing as she had such a mild dose!

I looked into it and decided not to give it after a long long thought about it. It is better for kids to get it before the age of 12. After that it gets more serious. So we decided to let it go and will review it closer to the age of 12 again and might let her go for the shot and a booster later on.
